Good afternoon everyone!
Today I'll show you bit more from Hollabrunn. In specific, a hiking route build arround Hollabrunn's vineyards called "Auf den Suren der Kellerkatze" or "On the trail of the cellar cat".
This entry will be mostly pictures that i took during the trip with some trivia between them.
The cat is the symbol of the town, due to it's irreplaceable help in keeping the mice away from the wine cellars.
A plague caused by a parasite insect called Phylloxera (Phylloxera vastatrix) introduced from America during the 19th century almost brought the region into economic collapse.
Although,
once Holabbrunn became officially a city 1908, the community experienced a
rapid uprising, offering new professions for its citizens.
Hollabrunn
also brought back the almost extinct tradition of scarecrows in the region,
with these colourful and wacky designs.
The tin
cans below these scarecrows create a distinct sound that makes birds flee.
I got really lucky because a wine cellar alley guide allow me to visit one of the old cellars and try some of the local wine.
Austria
doesn't have many big wine corporations, akin to Freixenet or Don Simón in
Spain. Vineyard owners make their own wine, so if you are wine connoisseur it's
going to be really easy to find something of your taste.
At lunchtime we went to try an Italian restaurant recommended to us by the locals "Pizza al forno". All the pizzas and dishes were handmade in an antique wood oven.
The restaurant was run by an italian family that had emigrated to austria.

We tried three pizzas: Toscana, Funghi and Lieblingspizza. They were all very good
To digest our meal, we took a walk to a nearby calisthenics park. We were impressed by a free book rental booth where you could take as many books as you wanted if you left the same amount and returned them on time.
For us it was funny to find a sausage vending machine on the street where people bought sausages 24 hours a day.

When we arrived at the gymnastics park, we did some exercises to compensate for the food. After that we went home to rest and prepare for tomorrow.
